Macro check-up for IT teams
Every VBA macro in a folder of Excel, Word and PowerPoint files, checked for what breaks or needs testing on current Microsoft 365 and Windows: why, where, and what to do first. The first 10 files are free.
Last updated 25 October 2026. The same page as a PDF (Letter), to send or print.
Why now
- VBScript is being switched off. Microsoft expects Windows to disable it by default in “approximately 2026 or 2027”. Macros that run .vbs files stop, and so does RegExp on Office builds before Version 2508, which added it to VBA. Microsoft’s advice: “Test your VBA projects in environments where VBScript is disabled.” [1]
- ActiveX controls are off by default: in Office 2024 since October 2024, and in Microsoft 365 apps in stages from April 2025. Controls on sheets show as pictures that do nothing [2].
- Macros in files from the internet are blocked, with no Enable content button on the banner [3].
- 64-bit Office is the default since Office 2019 and Microsoft 365; there, a Declare without PtrSafe is an error [4].
- The free Readiness Toolkit that inventoried macros was retired on 31 March 2024 [5].
What it finds, and what you receive
It reads the code and never runs it. Findings are grouped as: Breaks now; Will break when VBScript is disabled; Breaks on 64-bit Office; Unsupported, may stop working; Security-relevant; Maintenance risk. Where the answer depends on your setup, a finding says “needs testing”, never “safe”.
- checkup.pdf and checkup.html: an executive summary, a risk tier for every file, what to do first with an hours range, the questions only you can answer, then every file with module, line, code and fix.
- tickets.csv for Jira, ServiceNow or Freshservice; inventory.csv, one row per finding; summary.json.
- A sample check-up: one run on 26 public workbooks, anonymised, 23 pages.
Prices
- Up to 10 files: free. A sample check, to see whether the report is useful before anyone pays.
- Up to 100 files: $450, or $337.50 for an MSP that resells it.
- Up to 1,000 files: $1,200, or $900 for an MSP that resells it.
- Over 1,000 files: $1,200 plus $0.60 a file over 1,000. Fixed for the size you choose, agreed in writing, paid by invoice. An MSP that resells the check-up pays 25% less.
How the files are handled
- A private upload link, working for 14 days. The workbooks are deleted the moment the report is made; the report 30 days after we send it, or when you press Delete.
- Or the check runs on your own PC or server, in a screen-sharing session, and the files never leave your network. Passwords and keys found in the code are masked in every output.
